Dear Friends,
We calling for urgent prayer and action on behalf of Fabianus Tibo, Dominggus da Silva and Marianus Riwu, the three Indonesian Catholic Christians sentenced to death after being found guilty of masterminding the violence in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia in 2000.
On the 12th August the Indonesian president had granted a stay of execution following an international campaign supported by the EU, Pope Benedict XVI and Amnesty International that had focused on the inconsistencies in the original trial and had highlighted evidence that supported calls for a re-trial. However local sources now report that the three men are likely to be executed on Friday night (22/09). Their families have yet to be formally notified, however, the local authorities have argued that this will not be necessary, given that they had previously been informed of the decision to execute.
While it would appear that there is little that can humanly be done to stop the process, we can turn to our sovereign Lord. For He declares all things to be under His control- with Him nothing is impossible.
Therefore, please pray for:-
* Fabianus Tibo (60), Dominggus da Silva (39), Marinus Riwu (48), and for each of their families.
The President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Pray that God would move him to grant a last-minute stay of execution and that the men to be offered a fair re-trial.
Restraint to be shown by both Muslims and Christians. Ask that protests be conducted in a peaceful manner regardless of the outcome of the situation, and for there to be reconciliation between these two communities.
